On a blustery late November evening, Trinity News went out on the Vincent De Paul (VDP) soup run to record what students were doing to help those most in need.
With the recent news lately of the untimely death of John Corrie, just metres from the gates of Leinster House, much of the media focus has been on the lack of services and apathy of the public towards the problem. By chance, TN had just filmed this short documentary over the two weeks prior to Mr. Corrie’s death. ‘Soup Run’ highlights another side of the public, primarily the students, who, with the help of Trinity VDP, Teach Mhuire and local volunteers help keep those on the streets fed through the night.
Trinity VDP run one of many Dublin-based soup runs every Tuesday and Friday night. They meet at Front Arch at 8pm and always welcome new recruits. The society will be running a clothes drive next week in college. This is a hugely important part of the soup run programme as it supplies much needed hats, scarfs, coats and gloves to those facing the harsh conditions on the streets this winter.
