Trinity News is excited to solicit applications for a number of positions in both TN1, our main, broadsheet paper and in TN2, our culture & entertainment supplement.
You’ll find descriptions of all the available positions below. The application form is at the bottom of this page. The deadline for receipt of applications is Wednesday, 29th November at 17:00. Previous experience is not required; we value enthusiasm just as highly. Questions or comments regarding the positions to [email protected].
If you feel you’re not ready for a position just yet, we’d still love you to contribute. The best way to start writing for Trinity News is to email the person responsible for the section you’re most interested. You’ll find their names and contact details here.
Available positions
TN2 Web Editor
You will be required to copy-edit and post the daily TN2 blog to the website. Instruction will be provided.
TN2 Listings Editor
You will compile fortnightly listings, source comic strips and lay-out page 2 of the supplement. Instruction regarding software will be provided.
Deputy College News Editor
You will be responsible for communicating with writers, researching stories and helping to edit and layout the College News section.
College Political Correspondant
A researcher and writer for political goings on within Trinity College.
Committee Correspondant
A College committee researcher who will keep an eye on the minutes of committees across College.
Societies Editor
You will primarily compile a guide to Society events over each fortnight as well as producing articles and features on the world of societies in Trinity.
Munster Correspondant
You will have sources in Munster and be responsible for researching and writing articles on events in the universities and ITs of Munster.
Leinster Correspondant
You are student who has their ear to the ground concerning issues in the numerous third level institutions in Dublin outside of Trinity. As well as researching and writing articles on campus issues, this person would also occasionally report on political events affecting students..
Connaught Correspondant
You will have sources in Connaught and be responsible for researching and writing articles on events in the universities and ITs of Connaught..
Ulster Correspondant
You will have sources in Ulster and be responsible for keeping Trinity students updated on student affairs in the North.
Deputy International News Editor
The Deputy International News Editor will help the Editor in all aspects of producing the section, including researching, writing and editing articles, layout and communicating with writers. An interest in student news from around the world required; the rest you can learn on the job!
Deputy Opinion Editor
The Deputy will work with the Opinion editor on content for the section. There will also be the opportunity to write articles or profile pieces.
Columnist
This will entail writing a fortnightly column of c. 800 words for the opinions section. An interest in college news and current affairs is desired, and a good writing style is essential.
GAA Correspondant
You will have a strong interest in GAA matched by your writing ability. You will attend at least one fixture per fortnight.
Hockey Correspondant
Like the GAA Correspondant, you will attend at least one hockey fixture per fortnight and produce a match report for each issue.
Sports Features editor
You will produce slightly longer features on sporting issues in Trinity.
Art Features Editor
You will work with the Art editors on relevant feature article ideas and designation of the ideas to appropriate writers.
Art Reviews Editor
You will work with the Art editor and deputy-editor to decide on which local and national exhibitions to review and manage delegation of the articles, including those for the TN2 Blog.
Art Features Editor
You will work with the Art editors on relevant feature article ideas and designation of the ideas to appropriate writers.
Trinity Science Reporter
You will have sources in Trinity science faculties and specialise in reporting on Trinity College Dublin science issues.
Our man in Science
You will be the person who will specialise in science reporting of the most extreme kind. Interesting applications welcomed. If you happened to be female this could be deliciously ironic.
Technology Correspondent
You will specialise in technology and technology related reporting. Sources in industry an advantage.
Science Correspondent
Would specialise in general science reporting. Grand plans to encompass all science so far in one article almost expected.
Research Correspondent
Sources in science research a big advantage. Being in research possibly the biggest advantage of all. May chose a specific area of specialty to focus on.
Special Science Correspondent
You are gonna have to be special. Like, so special. Justify yourself in the boxes below.
Deputy Web Editor
You will be responsible for sharing the task of data entry with the Web Editor, focusing on the printed content of TN2.
