VP for Global Engagement expresses support for earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria

The email acknowledged that this is a “challenging time”for “particularly those who are from, or have family members in Türkiye, Syria and surrounding and impacted regions”

In an email sent to students and staff yesterday morning, College’s Vice President for Global Engagement expressed support for the victims of the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.

The email acknowledged that this is a “challenging time” for members of the College community, “particularly those who are from, or have family members in Türkiye, Syria and surrounding and impacted regions”.

Mentioning that they had “made every effort” to ensure that they had contacted all concerned, they asked that anyone affected who may not list Türkiye or Syria on their student record to contact them directly, should they wish to do so.

They also pledged to assist in the co-ordination of fundraising efforts in College over the coming weeks.

The Global Incident Response Unit which sits within Trinity Global was established by the Provost in March 2022 and will be co-ordinating College-wide efforts to put supports in place for affected students and colleagues.

The email concluded: “There are many people and services in Trinity who are here to support you including Trinity Global, the Senior Tutor’s Office, and the Student Counselling Service”.

Any member of the College community can access support from the 24-hour crisis text line by texting TCD to 50808.

Niteline, a confidential, non-judgemental help-line for students run by students is available during term time between 9pm and 2.30 am.

For those wishing to donate to the emergency response, there is a donation box in the Trinity Hall canteen. Alternatively, UNICEF, the International Federation of the Redd Cross & Red Crescent, and UNHCR Ireland are accepting donations online.

Affected students and staff should contact [email protected].
