Tickets for Trinity Ball sold out less than seven minutes after going on sale this morning.
Tickets for the event, often touted by Trinity Ents and College as Europe’s largest private party, went on sale at 8.30am via Ticketmaster at €91 each, the same as last year. An administrative fee of €7.15 was also charged by Ticketmaster.
Students were permitted to purchase a maximum of two tickets.
In a statement to Trinity News, Trinity College Dublin Students Union (TCDSU) said that “as is tradition, the demand for tickets far exceeded the capacity”.
A new system was used for the sale of tickets, with students required to pre-register to receive a unique code which would allow them to purchase tickets through Ticketmaster.
TCDSU added: “We’re delighted that the new ticketing system ran smoothly with very few issues and can’t wait to see everyone in Front Square on April 14!”
Last year, the website used for ticket sales crashed numerous times, with students waiting in virtual queues for almost an hour due to traffic on the page.
The capacity of this year’s event has been reduced from 7,500 to 6,000 due to the loss of New Square which has been the site of the main stage in recent years.
Disappointed students took to social media to ask friends and followers for spare tickets.
Demand has also been driven up by the announcement that this year’s Trinity Ball may be the last held on campus for five years due to construction works which will prohibit access to two main stage areas.
